It was achieved thanks to the persuasive charms of O'Kelly, who gave a virtuoso performance - the applause, a feature seldom heard and rarely with such gusto, was deservedly focused on the circus ringmaster, the man with the gavel, who coaxed additional bids from Al Basti when his wink-bidding style seemed to have run dry.
